World’s first Eco-City?

The first (1962-1964) proposal for North Bucks NewCity, which became Milton Keynes, had many characteristics which have since become seen as environmentally friendly.

One of these was the structuring element of access to Public Transport which was fare free using a linear elevated system. After some discussion when the project became the business of a New Town’s Development Corporation the structuring element for the Plan for Milton Keynes became road based.

Ever since that time debate has continued between these two ideas. “The World’s First Eco-City” briefly accounts the story of how the original proposals were changed.
