NBNC to Milton Keynes, News Items
When the Bucks County Council first made their proposal to build a new city, I recorded some of the news broadcasts which were made at the time. Also I recorded the initial announcement of Milton Keynes – note the pronunciation of “Kaynes”!
Often the interviews were made at short notice, so that we didn’t readily have suitable graphic material available. I was usually present at the interviews with Fred Pooley. In these interviews, Fred’s ability to put over complicated issues in a simple way can be heard.
RADIO & TV BROADCASTS.
On the 7th January 1964, The Buckinghamshire County Council, announced its proposal to build a new city for 250, 000 people in north Bucks. Media interest was considerable, it was the first time the idea to build what became Milton Keynes was made public. There then began an extensive programme of talks and discussions with the public throughout the County and the towns and villages in the north of the county in particular.
